It was a packed house in spite of the fact that we met one week earlier than usual -- thanks to Bastille Day falling on the 14th of July and the second Tuesday of the month. As usual, there was the eclectic collection of regulars and newcomers who gathered to say hello and chat, although the din was more like a roar for the whole of the two hours.
Newcomers today included:
Bernard de la Bourdonaye, a friend of Adrian McGinn's, retired, but still busy! Adrian is a Dubliner who has lived in Paris many years.
Jeanne Govert, who came to Paris because her husband has a two year position at a French firm in Nanterre, has always loved the "idea" of Paris so living here is a thrill. Unfortunately, she goes 'home' on August 1st but plans to visit often.
Christina Oettl's husband's job took here here, but she's learning French history, language and "joie de vivre" along with painting, photography and making new friends.
Noreen Dillman came along with Sharon Roberson, who was here same time last year. Noreen sold her law practice to live in Paris, is lucky to have Irish citizenship and is looking for a new career. Sharon is here till the end of August, and is living in the US, but dreams of buying an apartment in Paris with her son sometime in the near future.
Romy Teh attended a Living and Investing in France Real Estate Conference in San Francisco in 2008 and came to say hello to us. He'll eventually own a property in Paris, now that he has the "bug."
Marilene Garceau, young and French and establishing herself as a consultant for expats came to get to know us better by the recommendation of Nathalie Findlay.
Vera Ida's goal is to meet people and find new friendships...here for just a year and a half, but who knows?
Angélique Latimer is a singer/songwriter who comes to Paris several times a year to perform. She was guest speaker at Paris Soirées a couple weeks ago and came with new friend, Vanessa Hulme.
Linda Dohm knew more people than she expected, having met her at a nearby table at a café just a few days ago while she was dining with a visiting friend. She's hoping to make Paris a more permanent home soon.
"Oldtimers" included:
Vanessa Hulme, having recently moved here with her husband, Colin, for business reasons, generously is hosting Paris Soirées while Patricia Laplante Collins gets settled into her new apartment.
"Google Goddess" Julie Vetter hadn't been around in a while, but we always love to see her smiling face and hear her wisdom on "search engine optimization!"
James (Kimo) Gerald, a Manhattan resident, came once a year ago on an apartment exchange and now just keeps coming back.
Eva Marsh Ferziger has had an apartment here for ten years and stops in whenever she's in town.
Nancy Holmstrom and Richard Smith are oldtimers we haven't seen for a very long time, also having attended a Conference in years past. Nancy is a semi-retired philosophy professor and Richard is a contractor/builder who spend a couple of months in Paris and Normandy, sharing a house with friends.
Anne Morton is back after almost a year of absence, and happy to be in her Montmartre apartment with her granddaughter, Kayla, for the summer.
Alice Needham and Bill Sandie, who in the process of getting their bathroom remodeled, fired the contractor in the midst of it all, and are suffering from no bathroom and lots of problems! Ugh!
Victor Murphy is retired, moved to Paris and is happy to be practicing French.
Leandro Balidoy, who once stayed in a Parler Paris Apartment, is also retired and finds the newsletter helpful in finding restaurants, and maneuvering daily life in Paris.
Eve Humrich who moved from London with her husband, where she was a teacher, and is trying to sell her house near Charles de Gaulle so she can buy an apartment in Paris.
Sandra Fuenterosa, an opera singer, voice teacher, translator and writer...happy to be back in Paris again and we were happy she stopped back at Après Midi.
Robert Mandel and Lois Alexander came to say goodbye -- they left Paris the next day after a couple of months here enjoying every minute.
Adrian Leeds Group staff member, Florence Richburg, brought her bright toothy smile and shining personality, now that she's back in Paris for good. Yeah!
Joe Soileau, another staff member of the Adrian Leeds Group seemed to know everyone! And brought his exuberant personality with him.
And as unusual, Patricia Laplante Collins, of parissoirees.com came late, but came! She's moved to a new location near Notre Dame. So, stay tuned!
