In spite of the anxiety from the ATM debacle (see /parlerparis/issues/pparis15-4-09.html to read all about it), Après Midi went on as it always does and has since 2002! Considering the stress, I opted to have a "Pastis," an anise-flavored liqueur and apéritif containing 40% to 45% alcohol by volume. Then, the regulars and newcomers started to file in...
Adrian McGinn, a Dubliner who has lived in Paris many years, and loves it so much he just came with a company and stayed, came for his second time. He didn't mind paying for the Pastis, since he was 'comped' a glass of wine on his last visit with us.
Martine Safars was back, too, but this time without Antonio Meza. She's French/Belgian/Argentinean, has lived all over the world, and is now a coach and associate to PSI Communications.
Regulars like Mark Kritz, who is more in Paris than not, was in good company with Al Stewart of Business-Mentors, who also spends about half a year here in his "pied-à-terre" we call "Le Trésor." It's soon to be part of the community of "Parler Paris Apartments" vacation rentals.
Joe Soileau, a member of the Adrian Leeds Group team was with us as was Annalee Beverley, my friend and traveling companion, who is staying with me while her Saint-Germain-des-Prés apartment called "Le Château Saint-Germain," is rented, and who we have to thank for the "dashboard photos" in Monday's newsletter, was there, of course.
Madeleine Georgette, a long time visitor to Après Midi and formidable artist, came along with her pup and invitations to her showing at the Galerie Art et Miss (14, rue Sainte Anastase, 3rd) on until April 30th.
Nelda Martin accosted me on the street a few days ago and then agreed to stop by to say hello. She just loves to wander around the city and visit museums and enjoy life in the City of Light. And regulars Medora Kattenbach and Gar Westfall from Hawaii were well represented.
Roger and Naoma Foreman were here on their annual visit to see shows, visit friends, eat pastries and enjoy the city. Beth and Jim Eckenrod sold their boat ("peniche") and have rented an apartment in the 7th since this past October. If they can sell their house in the States, they may be moving to France permanently.
New to Après Midi was Tom Shell, here to celebrate his birthday (April 15th) after having lived here from 1969 to 1971 at the Cité des Arts, but who now lives in Los Angeles.
Yvonne Evans and Peggy Cleaver came together. Yvonne is from Charlotte, North Carolina, visiting her cousin, Peggy, who moved to Paris five years ago.
Elizabeth Marshall, resident, and her friend, Jeri Benoit, a long time resident of a suburb of Paris, came by at the end to discuss Elizabeth's real estate problem...a never-ending saga involving a "cave" (cellar).
And of course, Patricia Laplante Collins, with pup Eve in tow, wouldn't miss a single gathering! Plan on attending her upcoming Sunday evening soirées...http://www.parissoirees.com/ for more information.
