MEETING
OF JANUARY 13, 2004
Kati Lewis and Daniele Dupuis -- just getting to know each other at Parler Paris Après Midi...
The
rain wasn't letting up all day, so we wondered who would show on such
a miserable day, and the 13th, too. They sauntered in slowly, one by
one, old-timers, newcomers. JOHN FERRIER, the IL Paris Office Assistant
assisted me. He's here on the right talking with KATEN BUSH, a student
in San Francisco who we helped buy an apartment in a 16th-century building
in the Marais. Famous historian and author THIRZA VALLOIS ("Around
and About Paris" Volumes I, II and III and "Romantic Paris")
came in her favorite burgundy velvet hat and porting a suitcase full
of her books (as always). She chats with regular, Jane Rosenstein who
usually has some interesting man with her...but not this time.
I
was very pleased that ALAN and KATI LEWIS came to say hello (Kati second
from left and Alan on the right). They had been participants at our
first Working and Living in France Conference in 2002. They now have
an apartment near the Eiffel Tower and come to Paris to eat, enjoy cultural
events and visit with friends. Their dream: live and work in France.
Newcomer ALEX GESHOS (left), an Aussie who once lived here and in Brussels,
is now in Sydney, but wants to spend more time here. He's looking for
a pied-à-terre in the south or Paris. DANIELE DUPUIS has become
a regular (second from right) and we're always happy to have her French
point of view.
(Left
to right) ERIC TOLBERT had graced our doorstep once before -- he and
his partner, John Lutz, live in Paris and are currently looking for
a French "fat farm and detox center" after holidays with a
stream of U.S. visitors which began Labor Day and ended January 9th!
He asks, "Is the party over?" EVA LEE LICHTENBERG, our author
of "Au Petit Marguery" (this day's Parler Paris) and the forthcoming
regular column, "Crème de la Crème," and mediator/attorney
from Tranquility, New Jersey, chats with the group. AVIVA CASHMIRA and
her MOTHER were invited by RICHARD LOGIUDICE. He's currently working
as a consultant for the Cultural Heritage Division of UNESCO and has
been to Après Midi many times before. Aviva, is a translator
and author of city guides.
The party didn't break up till about 5:45 p.m. -- an indication that the group had lots to share among new friends.
