Le
Grand Ciel is a studio apartment with a separate kitchen,
completely renovated in 2009 to provide a stylish and relaxing
retreat in this most convenient part of Paris. The apartment
has been professionally remodeled to provide a fantastic
feeling of spaciousness which makes the most of the three
large traditional windows -- one in each room to create
a very sunny aspect and provide great views of the neighborhood.
This light and bright ambiance has been further enhanced
by contemporary decor where teals and turquoises contrast
with crisp cool white. A solid oak parquet floor, warm underfoot,
is the perfect compliment to the modern and comfortable
design. Located on the third floor of this recently renovated
Haussmannian building, set on a quiet street just steps
from from a Métro station, this is the perfect spot
for a sightseeing trip to the City of Light.
On
entering the apartment you may hang your coat in the entrance
hall and continue into the luminous kitchen and dining nook.
The owners of this apartment are keen cooks and this is
reflected in the well-appointed kitchen. Cook up a culinary
wonder with produce from the local open-air markets (Richard
Lenoir) and dine at the stone-topped bistro table overlooking
the street below. Also in the same room is a large laundry
cupboard with a washer/dryer, plus everything for your laundry
needs so, if you wish, you can travel a little lighter!
Beyond
the kitchen, through the sliding door which disappears into
the wall, is a spacious modern bathroom complete with large
walk-in shower, floating toilet and contemporary wash-basin.
A tiled floor and natural stone mosaic detailing add to
the up-to-the-minute design. Luxuriously fluffy towels hang
on the heated towel rail with plenty of spares under the
teak vanity shelf. With an overhead light, mirror light
and large frosted glass window, you can use this bright
space to ensure you look your best when you hit the town.
There is also ample storage provided for your own toiletries.
Back
through the kitchen and through the glass paneled door is
the main living space of the apartment. A king-sized bed
with luxury bed linen and plenty of pillows ensure you will
have a comfortable night. The bed can be converted into
two twin beds if required. Storage is provided for your
clothing in the French style armoire and there is room for
your suitcases on top. The desk has space for your laptop
and papers, and can be closed when you have finished working.
The entertainment center is provided in the large shelving
unit which houses a flat-screen television, CD and DVD players
and a selection of books and games. Close the sleek velvet
curtains and this stylish apartment becomes the perfect
cozy sanctuary.
Everything
you could possibly need has been included in this well thought-out
apartment. The three separate rooms give a feeling of space
and even allow for time away from your fellow traveler if
necessary! The apartment building itself is of the typical
Haussmannian style of architecture that makes Paris so beautiful.
The communal parts of the building have recently been refurbished
and the external digicode and internal security door make
this apartment very safe and secure.
You
will love spending your relaxing time here overlooking the
architecture of Paris as well as the convenient location
that takes you to any part of Paris in minutes.
The
Area Around Le Grand Ciel
Rue
du Grand Prieuré (The Street of the Grand Priory)
gets its name from the Grand Priory of the Temple. It was
built on land belonging to the Grand Priory and opened in
1783. The Temple was a medieval fortress situated between
rue du Temple and rue de Turenne in the 3rd arrondissement.
It was built by the Knights Templar in the 12th-century
as their European headquarters. Parts of the Temple fortress
were later used as a prison and it is now notorious for
having been the French royal family's jail at the time of
the Revolution. King Louis XVI was taken from there on January
21, 1793 to be guillotined at the Place de la Révolution.
On August 1, 1793 Marie-Antoinette was taken from the Temple's
tower to the Conciergerie, from where she was also taken
to the guillotine.
The
apartment sits at the end of this quiet street a minute
or two from the Oberkampf Métro station which is
just four stops from Gare du Nord. Gare du Nord is the entry
point for travelers flying to Charles de Gaulle airport
or arriving on the Eurostar. Just five minutes walk from
the apartment is Place de la République which is
not only a vibrant shopping area, it is also a Métro
hub where five metro lines converge. This makes it ideal
for traveling all over Paris with the minimum of fuss and
a great location for vacationers. If you are brave enough
to face the Paris traffic there is also a Vélib (bicycle)
station right outside the door of the building. For those
less brave, the roads along the beautiful Canal Saint-Martin
which is close to the apartment are closed to traffic on
Sundays.
Other
less well-known Parisian gems within easy reach of the apartment
are the Père Lachaise Cemetery, whose occupants include
Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison. Place de la Bastille
is just a 15-minute walk and Le Marais is only a few blocks
away. One can also take advantage of nearby Canal Saint-Martin
where people picnic or just enjoy the relaxing flow of the
water under the cool shade of the trees.
The
open-air Popincourt food market on boulevard Richard-Lenoir,
just a one-minute walk from the apartment building, is open
on Tuesday and Friday mornings and sells local French produce
in abundance as well as food from further afield including
many North African specialties. Towards Place de la Bastille,
also on boulevard Richard-Lenoir, is the largest open-air
market in the city on Thursdays and Sundays as well as an
art market on Saturdays, both of which are not to be missed.
