Bonjour French Property Insider Subscriber, ARMISTICE DAY 11-11-10 Not all the streets of Paris are quiet today (as mine is) as France celebrates Armistice Day, the 92nd anniversary when the armistice was signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning — the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. This morning, a wreath was laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe by Mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoë, as well as at the Statue George Clemenceau on the avenue des Champs Elysées. One-point-four million French soldiers were killed between August 2, 1914 and November 11, 1918, including tens of thousands who were never identified.
Compiègne is in the northeast of the department of Oise in the Picardie region. From Paris the A1 autoroute takes you there in about one hour. It is a center for many manufacturing industries (Colgate-Palmolive) and is a popular tourist spot, particularly with cyclists. The price of real estate in the area is between 1,650 €/m² and 2,500 €/m². A 111 m2 (by coincidence!) house near Compiègne with three bedrooms, a double living room with open kitchen, bathroom with shower, office, garage and basement, on 630 m2 of land with a terrace: 295,000€ PRICES CONTINUE TO RISE IN PARIS AND ILE-DE-FRANCE Real estate in Paris and Ile-de-France has broken all records as of late August 2010. Between June and August, 46,100 homes were sold in the Ile-de-France -- 33% over the same period of 2009. On an annual basis, prices rose 10.2% between August 2009 and August 2010. In Paris prices rose even higher with 12.9%, compared with 11.6% in July.
TAXES FOR FRENCH RESIDENTS: HERE ARE MEASURES TO CONSIDER BEFORE DECEMBER 31, 2010 The Finance Act of 2011, which is currently under discussion, is considering eliminating or reducing various tax incentives for the purchase of a property, marriage or civil partnership. 1) Mortgage interest: a credit that reduces the income tax is expected to disappear in 2011. 2) The rental property investment "Scellier": as of 2011, conditions were lowered (maximum rate of rent and reduction) and settlement areas would be modified. 3) The tax return: the year of a marriage or entering into a PACS, husbands or partners can make three income tax statements, which normally reduces the amount owed. In 2011, this "benefit" would disappear. For more information, contact your Notaire. TAKING TURKEY DAY OFF Don't forget, French Property Insider will take a one-issue break on Thanksgiving Day, November 25th. Happy Upcoming Thanksgiving!
